When building a high performance home, you often don't really need a large heating source, or you prefer the main heating integrated into the fabric of the home (such as hydronic floor heating). However, there is nothing like the ambience created with real flame. In addition, for a real high performance home, you need to make the home air-tight. This makes installing flues tricky, as well as bringing in the fresh-air supply from outside without interrupting the air-tightness layer. You also have additional penetrations through the weather-tightness layer of the home, plus flue's for wood burners also need regular cleaning.

Biofuel fires solve all of these issues. They run on bio-ethanol fuel, and have very low internal emissions (no smoke or carbon monoxide), meaning they don't need flues.

The orbit is a ceiling hung unit which is a very popular format.
